Condition were harsh at the Oscar trainer coaching and development centre as Colaiste ide took on NUI Maynooth in the CUFL Premier east A division. NUI Maynooth started the brighter of the teams, Craig Mooney and Paul O Brien having early chances both sending their efforts over the bar. Ide weathered the storm and started to come more into the game. On the 20 minute mark Alan Mc Cann struck from a corner to put the home team ahead. NUI Maynooth created a couple of goal scoring opportunities before half time but didn’t hit the target or were frustrated by the Ide goalkeeper. NUI Maynooth were dominant early in the second half having the lion’s share of possesion, however Ide always looked dangerous on the break. Maynooth could not find a way through and on 90 minutes Shane Keely scored a free kick to finish what was for the most part an even contest.
Welcome to the sport pages of the National University of Ireland, Maynoooth. The aim of this department is to provide as many students and staff as possible the opportunity to partake in sports and physical recreation.
The formative years spend at university should encompass a lot more than study and course-work. Research and practical knowledge vouches that sport enables all of us to work and play better. For students, the lifestyle habits adopted during the college years are likely to be those for life. School-leavers just starting college have an obvious advantage and can anticipate quick gains through physical training which should stand to them for the rest of their years.
Student-run clubs form the back-bone of the sports and recreation programme at the NUI, Maynooth. The Sports Office organises a range of fitness classes for those who are unable to commit themselves fully to a club. With thirty-two active university clubs, an exceptional and time-honored structure is in place for student sport.
