Each season, the CFAI select a representative squad from the players of member colleges. Members nominate players to attend a trial game, usually held in early December. Players are then selected to become part of a squad, which will usually meet again for a session in early January prior to being finalised.

The association play annual fixtures versus the Defence Forces and the Universities representative teams and travel abroad on a development trip.

The CFAI National Squad is managed by Danny Crowley (Colaiste Ide) with the Assistance of Jim Conroy (Colaiste Ide) and Paddy Gleeson (CSN).
