The Umbro Cup is the largest cup competion in Third level and has been played for since 1973. It is open to all members of the CFAI. Each college can only enter one team. Players who play in the Colleges Cup are inelligible for the Bob Eustace or the B-Teams Cup.

Colleges with teams competing in the Premier Division of the CUFL are seded in the first round.

The first round is also divided into two pools (North and South) to avoid excessively long travel times.
