Report from CIT:

CIT's B team began the campaign full of optimism following last year’s success in the cup and first up in the league was IT Carlow C. But all didn’t go to plan for the home side. IT Carlow started the stronger, moving the ball well and keeping good possession. Chances were few and far between but eventually the away side opened the scoring after sloppy defensive play from CIT. It looked like IT Carlow would go into the break one up but CIT were offered a way back into the game when Mark Barry dribbled past two defenders and slotted home from outside the box. Half time 1-1.

The second half began the same as the first and a corner from IT Carlow was not dealt with by the CIT defenders and eventually the ball was turned in to make it 2-1. CIT began to push on after a few changes but the away side created another opportunity and the centre forward didn’t disappoint. 3-1. CIT eventually came to grips with the game and squandered a few glories opportunities. But without CIT closing the gap IT Carlow were able to see out the victory comfortably.

In conclusion CIT will be disappointed but can take some positives from their second half display, it may take a bit of time to bed in a few new players having seen 5 of their players from last year make the step up to the CIT first team. Credit to IT Carlow who had some excellent players on display and fully deserved their victory.
