Dublin University are set to host the annual Irish Universities blue ribband trophy the Collingwood Cup next February for the first time since 1992. That year UCD claimed the prize in a thrilling 5-4 victory over Jordanstown at College Park.
The Dublin University soccer club president John Murphy is delighted that this famous competition is returning once again to Trinity. ‘We are really looking forward to hosting the Collingwood Cup next February at College Park and at our sports ground in Santry. Already we have began preparing for this major event with the formation of a special committee and we’ll be hoping to have as successful a competition as Magee College organised in Derry earlier this year’.
Meanwhile the other Irish Universities competitions the Harding Cup – the premier competition for Freshmen – will take place at NUI Maynooth from February 10-13 and the Crowley Cup for second teams has been offer to NUI Galway to take place March 25-27.
