Report ITT Dublin:

UCD maintained their perfect start to the new season with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over ITT Dublin at a wind-swept Belfield on Tuesday.

The Students looked impressive from the start with several players with Airtricity League experience in their ranks.

Stegan Sexton thought he had opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a low strike that beat Tallaght keeper Craig Hanlon but bounced back off the base of the visiting side’s right upright.

The visitors then snatched a shock lead less than a minute later when Colin May latched onto an under-hit back pass and beat UCD keeper Michael McGinley from close range.

UCD found ITT a tough nut to crack for the remainder of the have and Robbie Benson was also denied by a post with a well struck effort from just inside the penalty area.

First team star Paul Corry was the star of the show and he forced a couple of top class saves from keeper Hanlon, who plays for Dundalk in the Airtricity League.

The home side scored a controversial equaliser in the 42nd minute when Corry converted from the penalty spot after the referee deemed Benson had been fouled inside the area with ITT adamant that any offence that was supposed to have happened took place outside the area.

Bouyed by their equaliser and with the wind at their backs, UCD were far superior in the second half.

Corry scored a fortunate lead goal early in the second half when Hanlon misjudged the flight of a wind-assisted free-kick and the ball ended up in the ITT net.

Tyrone McNelis extended UCD’s lead in the 62nd minute when he cut in from the left and slotted home at the near post with Hanlon left without any protection.

A long distance strike by Darren Whelan saw the home side hit the woodwork for a third time in the 76th minute.

UCD then wrapped the game up with two goals in the space of a minu8te. Tomas Boyle headed home from a corner in the 80th minute before Robert Murray wrapped up the scoring when he burst through to slot past Hanlon.

ITT Dublin: Hanlon; Sage (Murray), O Ruadh, Kavanagh, Byrne, Hayes, Van Zutphen, Cooney, Callaghan (Brocklebank), Morley, May (Murphy).

Scorers: UCD: Paul Corry (2), Tyrone McNelis, Robert Murray, Sean Buckley. ITTD: Colin May
