Collingwood Cup - Quarter Finals

Kick Off: Wednesday 25th February 2009 at 14:30
Location: The Farm, Bishopstown, Cork

Teams: NUI Galway 0 vs University College Cork 0 (5-4 on pens)

(Galway won 5-3 on penalties after extra time)
University College Galway were forced to play with just ten men from the 42nd minute of the match when Mick Gilmore was sent off by referee Eddie McNally.
Galway played with great passion, however, and made light of the disadvantage as they battled bravely through 30 minutes of extra time and refused to concede.
Cork had two opportunities of winning the match - in the 77th minute when substitute Richie Ryan fired a shot against the angle of crossbar and upright and again in extra time when team captain Ciaran Forde broke through on goal only to be denied as goalkeeper John Burke saved bravely at his feet.
Goalkeeper Burke emerged the hero for he saved Cork's second penalty attempt and when Galway, who went first, converted their first five penalties in impeccable fashion, Cork were left to rue their lost opportunities.
