Ireland were defeated in the first play off game vs Canada at FC Makis Stadium today.

Ireland went into this game determined to get their first win after three one goal defeats in the group stages to Uruguay, Italy and Korea. Ireland dominated the game from start to finish in the swealtering temperatures and humidy in Belgrade and missed umpteen chances. Canada were awarded a penalty with 15 mins to go and James Scholefield beat Billy Brennan for the games only goal. Ireland now play Ghana on Wednesday in the 13th to 16th Place play offs.
