Holders UCC advanced to the National Finals having won the regional event at The Mardyke and a very strong University of Limerick womens futsal squad advanced from the west regional qualifiers.

West Finals at UCC

UCC came out top in this thrilling final, with a goal in extra time with 10 seconds left on the clock. It was fair to say that the two best teams reached the final.

Zoe Murphy opened the scoring before CCFE replied back with a goal from Shauna McCarthy,UCC pushed all the way by CCFE but came out attacking in extra time. Yvonne Cahill picked the ball up just outside the arc and with shouts from the bench to shoot struck the winning goal into the bottom corner. UCC now go on to the Nationals in March.

Erika O Sullivan who was Player of the tournament and scored 6 goals

CIT were very strong in the group games and came in second with a great win over the winners in the first game. With there Goalkeeper Mary McDonnell having a great tournament.

WIT played very competitively with a small squad and with heroics from there goalkeeper Sarah Ryan   the scorelines could have been a lot worse. The girls represented WIT very well.

South Futsal Finals at UL

On Wednesday afternoon in Mary Immaculate College in Limerick the UL Ladies sides emulated the Mens teams in their own WSCAI Futsal Cup to match the Mens 1, 2 finish at the CUFL Futsal Cup the day before. The UL ‘A’ team looked like worthy champions from the start and look a force to be reckoned with come the National Final after scoring 33 goals in just 4 games (a feat which betters the UL Mens teams record of 32 goals in 5 games). With such firepower on show both the Mary I and the UL ‘B’ teams were in for a struggle from the start. With the UL ‘A’ team playing great Futsal and displaying the skills and finishing required of a top team it was up to the UL’B’ team and Mary I to fight it out for 2^nd place. The first game between them ended in a 4-4 draw while UL ‘B’ nicked the second encounter 6-5 to grab second place. Top scorer on the day was Jennie Brennan of UL ‘A’ with 8 goals.
