The WSCAI are the organisation responsible for womens' soccer in all third level colleges on the island of Ireland. Women's soccer at third level in Ireland began competitively in 1983 with the first intervarsity tournament in University College Dublin.
In the first few years the Intervarsity was the main tournament. In 1987 the Ladies Soccer University Association of Ireland was formed, the name has since been changed to the Women's Soccer Colleges Association of Ireland to reflect the make up of the association. These days there are more than just universities involved, Institutes of Technology and Post leaving certificate colleges can also participate.
There are twenty-five colleges and universities affiliated to the association in 2016/17, with six colleges playing in the Premier Division, six colleges playing in Division One, and seventeen teams in Division Two.
The WSCAI also have the following other competitions; Intervarsity tournament, Futsal Intervarsities, and Cup competitions.
