The Irish Technical College's Football Association (ITCFA) was formed in 1970 with Brian Hooper and DIT's Sports Lecturer Seamus Byrne two of the founder members of the association. Subsequent to this Soccer in DIT began in the same year with all five DIT college campuses having separate teams with Kevin St, Rathmines, Bolton St, Cathal Brugha St and Mountjoy Square all fielding teams playing in the Donagh O'Malley Trophy.

In 1998 all DIT college campus based sport was amalgamated to have the one representation from each DIT sports club. The DIT Soccer Club from here on existed with players from all DIT sites to making up the one club. From 2008 on the DIT soccer club could boast a Full-time Football Development Officer, four coaches and four competitive teams with approximately 100 registered players each year. In addition a number of recreational leagues are run each year with up to 150 students participating.

The three men's teams currently compete in the College's & Universities Football League(CUFL), College's Football Association Ireland (CFAI) Umbro Cup and College & University Futsal Cup. Representative Squads include the CFAI National Squad annually and the World Student Games Team bi- annually.

The ladies team compete in the Leinster Regional League, The Challenge Cup and the College & University Futsal Cup. Representative squads include the Interprovincial Squad, The Combined College's team annually and the World Student Games bi-annually.

Recent team success has included a CFAI All-Ireland Umbro B Cup in 2008, but the club have excelled individually with a total of ten players on the CFAI National Squad for the past two year's and another four players were selected for the World Student Games in Serbia in 2009. The 2009/10 year very nearly brought success with the Premier Men's Team and the Men's Futsal Team reaching the All-Ireland CUFL Final and All-Ireland College's & Universities Futsal Cup respectively.
